About Me

Hello! Welcome to the “boringphysicsteacher”!

As you can guess, I am a secondary school Physics teacher for 10 years in Singapore. The age group of my kids ranges from 13 to 16. The reason I named this website boringphysicsteacher is that I always (at the start of the year) gets comments from my kids that they don’t like Physics as it is dry , boring and mathematical. To make it worse, for the 10 years that I taught Physics in secondary school, my students are all girls! So this “boring Physics teacher’s” task was to try my best to change their perceptions at the end of 2 years Physics course. And in my teaching experience, I find that girls can do well (or even better than boys) in Physics!

Through the 10 years in teaching Physics, I encountered “Flipped Classroom”. It is where students watch a short video lesson (preferably off school) to be introduced to the new concepts so that teachers and students can spend more time discussing questions that students have. More time is spent understanding and applying the concepts learnt. Students can also review the video again should they missed out on certain parts of the lesson.

Thus, with this in mind, I wanted to record my own Physics video lessons and make it available to all students. By breaking down the various concepts into videos less than 15 mins, I hope provide simple and clear explanation of secondary school Physics concepts. Hopefully, it will be useful to students who wanted to

  1. read ahead so that they can have a better idea when their teachers go through the concepts in class.
  2. refresh and revise their concepts.
  3. review their prior misconceptions.

Do let me know if you have any comments and ways that I can improve.

Thank you!

    1. Thank you for your support yan’an! A bit more challenging to make physics more interesting in video lessons unless I change to something like flipped physics. That guys is funny!
Anyway, congrats on your graduation! You are finally found your calling though I think you are a good teacher! πŸ™‚

  3. Hi Mr Thio!! I’m Charmain from 102’15 and I’m not sure if you remember me but I have a Physics question to ask you regarding last year’s LSS Physics Paper! I think you explained the question to me before but I forgot and the Physics teachers aren’t replying their emails 😦 so I thought I would ask you again hehe. Do I ask you the question via your RGS email if you are still using it? Thank you!! πŸ˜€
