First blog post

Hello!

The purpose of this blog/website is to organize my Physics video lessons on youtube. So if you are looking for Singapore O-Level Physics Lesson and somebody to guide you through the various concepts, this is the place to look. As you can see, it is still a work in progress. I have only created Video lessons for some topics.

  1. Units and Measurement
  2. Kinematics
  3. Dynamics
  4. Work, Energy and Power
  5. Turning effect and stability
  6. Pressure
  7. Reflection, Refraction and Lens
  8. Waves
  9. Sound
  10. Current of Electricity
  11. DC circuit analysis
  12. Using Video Tracker for Motion analysis

In the near future, I will create more Physics video lessons and update on this website.

The humble straw

As you are relaxing in a corner, sipping on your drink through a straw. Have you ever wondered why by sucking a straw, the cool drink is sucked up to your mouth? As crazy as it sounds, it is because you and the straw are under pressure all the time! And find out why people working in a submarine is always in a high pressure work environment.

Why are high heel shoes lethal weapons?

Would you rather be stepped upon by an adult elephant or someone wearing high heel shoes?

Using Physics to calculate Pressure, the rational me wants me to take my chance with the elephant rather than the high heels! How counter-intuitive!

Anyway, always had fun helping some of my students know that they have a lethal weapon at their disposal should they wear high heel shoes. 😀

Principle of Conservation of Energy

Finally completed the video lessons on Work, Energy and Power. The video package comprises of:

  1. Concept of Work Done
  2. Introduction to different forms of energy
  3. Principle of Conservation of Energy and Energy Conversions
  4. Difference between Work Done and Energy
  5. Conservation of Energy applied to simple pendulum
  6. Conservation of Energy applied to skateboarders
  7. Difference between Work Done and Power
  8. Concept of Power Efficiency
  9. Sample Practice MCQs

Centre of Gravity and Stability

2 new video lessons on Centre of Gravity and Stability. Some questions asked are:

  1. What is Centre of Gravity and why do we have it?
  2. How does Centre of Gravity affect stability of object?
  3. Why does having lower centre of gravity and broader base makes an object more stable?

What is Centre of Gravity?

How does Centre of Gravity affect stability of an object?

A small project with my daughter for her birthday!

Before I left for my holidays, I did a small project with my daughter for her birthday. We did a birthday gift pack for her classmates to create a model of a lung. As one of her favorite TV show is Mister Maker, I thought of asking her to help me in the video

I thought it it was going to be easy creating a “How to make it….” kind of video. I must say that it is quite challenging!  had to do multiple retakes because of my clumsy hands and try as I might, I don’t sound enthuastics…..so my end product isn’t a good one. So hats off to Mister Maker to make such a good program for my daughter to watch! However, I had fun making it with my daughter! 😀

Topics on Light

I will be off on a holiday with family. So I will be inactive for 2 weeks or so.  Before I go, I have done up some more videos on the topic of light. They includes:

  1. What is reflection of light and how mirror forms an image?
  2. How to draw light ray diagrams for reflection in plane mirror?
  3. What is refraction of light and refractive index of a medium?
  4. What is Snell’s Law and how do we apply it to refraction of light?
  5. What is total internal reflection and how to calculate the critical angle of a medium?
  6. What are the image characteristics formed by thin converging lens at different object distance?

They should be useful for some quick revision of concepts for students taking their O levels soon.
